Jarrey Foster, who was having a breakout season with the SMU Mustangs before partially tearing his ACL, told ESPN he would declare for the draft, but he's preserving the option to return for his senior year.

SMU finished the season 17-16, and coach Tim Jankovich said his team would accept if offered an NIT bid. "Certainly before all the health issues we were, if you believed the projections, a four or five seed," he said. "Then the bottom dropped out with the injuries. Of course we would accept, 100 percent, yes."

Cincinnati looked ragged at times on the offensive and defensive ends against an inspired SMU team, trailing by six at one point in the second half. But the Bearcats took control in the final nine minutes, closing the game on a 17-9 run to make it to the American Athletic Conference tournament semifinals.

Thursday headlines: Villanova would not lose a No. 1 seed if it falls tonight, but would give up No. 1 overall to Virginia. Last night, on the bubble, Virginia Tech replaced Syracuse. Tonight, SMU is out with a loss (at Tulsa) and Washington would slide in with a win (over Arizona State).
