Grayson Allen heads group of college basketball's best

College basketball isn't that far off. Really, it isn't. A Duke player still leads our updated rundown of the best players in the land, but it isn't the same one as in April.

Stats & Info

Being perfect is overrated anyways

And there you have it! The final two perfect brackets busted thanks to Maryland's win over South Dakota State. But for the majority of you, the bracket pain came early on -- 11 of the first 24 games of the tourney were won by the lower seed.

Maryland needed a turnover in the closing seconds to ensure it would avoid a place with all the other top seeds that lost in the first round of this topsy-turvy NCAA tournament.

Trimble fouls out but Terps hang on to win

The Jackrabbits got within 2 points of the Terrapins late, but Melo Trimble and Jake Layman combined for 46 points to power 5-seed Maryland past 12-seed South Dakota State 79-74. The Terps will face 13-seed Hawaii in the round of 32 on Sunday. Box score

No. 5 Maryland trying to close out win

That's 17 straight points from Jake Layman and Jared Nickens. Despite their offensive outpouring, the Terrapins can't quite put their foot on SDSU's throat. Jackrabbits keeping it in the 10-15 point range, just enough to remain threatening.

Maryland should be dominating the paint against South Dakota State. The Jackrabbits' tallest player is 6-foot-9. The Terrapins have three players 6-foot-9 or taller in their starting five (six players 6-foot-9 or taller in total). Instead, Maryland has outrebounded the Jackrabbits by just 4.

Maryland is up by 10 right now but the on-court play and demeanor makes it seem like South Dakota State is up.

ESPN Stats & Information

First Round: SDSU (12) vs. Maryland (5)

The Terps stumbled down the stretch (3-5 in their final eight Big Ten games), but would seem to have a decided edge over the Jackrabbits. Preview

South Dakota State can make history

Last year, No. 12 seeds were swept by No. 5 seeds for the first time since 2007. Thursday, the tables turned. If the Jackrabbits can get the win Friday, it would give 12s three wins in this year's tourney, tying the NCAA tournament record.

Stats & Info

Congrats to 13-20 percent of you

Wonder how many people picked the upsets correctly? It may be higher (or lower) than you might expect. Yale took the lead and was picked over Baylor by 20.3 percent of brackets, while only 13.1 percent picked Arkansas-Little Rock.

Stats & Info

No. 12 seeds own upset city

If you're among those scratching their heads over the Yale or Arkansas-Little Rock wins, this may come as a shock. At least one 12-seed has won a game in 28 of the 32 tournaments since the field expanded in 1985. And since 2010, 12-seeds are now 12-14 against 5-seeds despite losing all four games last year.
