Virginia's No. 2 scorer one of two to transfer

Marial Shayok has decided to transfer from Virginia, a team on which he was second in scoring this season at 8.9 points per game. Jarred Reuter also is leaving the Cavaliers.

Virginia junior Marial Shayok is transferring, per the school. Averaged 8.9 points this past season. Minutes were inconsistent late in the season, but did score 23 points in the NCAA Tournament win over UNC-Wilmington.

ACC proves it was overrated

All season the ACC was widely considered the best league in the nation. It got nine teams into the NCAA tournament. Well, eight of them are gone now. So what does that tell you?

White: 'It was a great win for our program' (0:50)

John Gasaway ESPN Insider

Virginia ended its 2016-17 with the most severe and arid of all scoring droughts. Give full credit to Florida for a total 65-39 dismantling of UVA, and puzzle along with me over the spectacle of a Cavalier team that actually had an excellent (though now long forgotten) January on offense. Apparently that was a blip.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Virginia was held below 1.00 point per possession in seven of its final 11 games. The Cavaliers went 5-6 in that stretch.

Adam Reisinger ESPN.com

The 39 points scored by Virginia matched the fewest by a major conference team in the NCAA Tournament since 2000 (West Virginia in 2015 and Marquette in 2013).

The door is now open for Florida in the East region after blowing out Virginia, 65-39. Gators will be favored against Wisconsin in the Sweet 16, and then will likely face either Duke or Baylor in the Elite Eight. Florida's defense is on another level right now, and the Gators are going to be a threat to keep winning. The loss of John Egbunu is in the past. Mike White has them hitting on all cylinders.

Adam Reisinger ESPN.com

It's a final: Florida 65, Virginia 39. The combined margin of victory for the two second-round games in Orlando tonight was 51 points. Not exactly what you expect from March Madness.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Per ESPN Stats & Info, Florida's largest NCAA Tourney win over a major conference team was by 26 in 2012 ... against Virginia. Gators pushing to pass that tonight.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Virginia made six field goals in the first 8:18 of the game. The Cavaliers have made five in the 23 minutes and 18 seconds since then.

Adam Reisinger ESPN.com

Saturday has not been kind to the ACC here in Orlando. Florida State lost by 25 earlier tonight and now Virginia trails by 22 in the second half against Florida. Time is running out for the Cavaliers to mount some kind of comeback.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Virginia trying to get back in the game with its five-guard lineup that can create and shoot at all five spots. But Florida is so versatile and long defensively, the Gators don't have to necessarily get smaller to match up. That's making it really difficult for Virginia to make up ground.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Virginia hasn't scored since the 5:10 mark of the first half.

Adam Reisinger ESPN.com

Virginia has fallen behind by 20 points and the Cavaliers' bench is starting to get that look like the season might be over.

John Gasaway ESPN Insider

We need an acronym for this condition because we've seen it before. Virginia runs its offense in a disciplined manner and indeed takes excellent care of the ball. But the Cavaliers just cannot make shots. Cannot make shots...That's it! Suffering from severe CMS, the 'Hoos scored just 17 first-half points and now trail Florida by 14.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Florida's perimeter defense is on another planet right now. Chris Chiozza and Kasey Hill at the point of attack, combined with Devin Robinson's length and KeVaughn Allen's strength. Virginia can't get anything going off the bounce.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Florida closes the first half on a 12-0 run to lead by 14 at halftime on Virginia. The Cavaliers are really having trouble with Florida's versatile forward tandem of Devin Robinson and Justin Leon. The two have combined for 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Virginia overcame a 15-point deficit in the first round, and if the Cavaliers want to advance, they're going to have to dig themselves out of a hole again. Florida ended the first half on a 12-0 run to take a 31-17 lead into the break. The 48 combined points are tied for the fewest in a half in this year's NCAA tournament.

Adam Reisinger ESPN.com

Virginia has trailed for most of the first half, but the Cavaliers' mascot won the dance-off against Florida's Gator, so they have that going for them.
