Dominant showing from Villanova over a St. John's team that had an emotional win about 16 hours ago. Wildcats win by 41. Kris Jenkins and Donte DiVincenzo were alternating hot stretches, and six guys finished in double-figures. Villanova hitting on all cylinders as it prepares for a run at a repeat title. One thing to note: Mikal Bridges played just one minute due to a stomach virus. Led to some interesting lineup combinations from Jay Wright.

Strong first half from Villanova. Wildcats weren't called for a foul the entire half. Kris Jenkins started hot, Donte DiVincenzo finished hot. Jay Wright has his team focused.

Josh Hart contributing without filling it up against St. John's. Has a couple buckets, but is finding guys out of the post, passing out of double teams, making the extra pass.

Kris Jenkins starting to find himself after a slump in the middle of the Big East season -- averaging 16.0 PPG in his last four games, has already been a difficult matchup for St. John's early in the game.

Big East redux: Mullin, JT3 spar during tourney

St. John's coach Chris Mullin had a heated exchange with Georgetown coach John Thompson III and Hoyas assistant Patrick Ewing Jr. in the schools' Big East tournament opener.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

John Thompson III on the scuffle: "It's the Big East tournament. It's just competition, that's all. Kids are playing hard, coaches are coaching hard. It's the heat of battle."

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Chris Mullin on the fracas: "I just went out there to see what was going on. Everything else was nothing. Nothing was going on. It was just competitive juices flowing."

Jeff Goodman ESPN Insider

I asked Chris Mullin what he said to Patrick Ewing Jr. after the game. "I asked him if he was going to beat me up like his father did." He said, "No. I love you." Mullin added, "I have tremendous respect for them. This time it was competitive juices. In 1985, there was more to it. Not in the year 2017."

Chris Mullin on what he said to Patrick Ewing Jr. in the handshake line: "I asked him if he was going to beat me up like his father did." He said "No, I love you." So I said, "OK."

St. John's escapes by one over Georgetown. Old-school Big East game. Physical, chippy.

St. John's clinging to a one-point lead on Georgetown. 36.6 seconds left. Red Storm haven't been able to pull away.

To recap, Amar Alibegovic fouled L.J. Peak on a drive. There was some shoving under the basket, and Chris Mullin went onto the court. Things seemed to settle down, and then Mullin and John Thompson III began yelling at each other. Mullin had to be held back, and then Georgetown assistant Patrick Ewing Jr. had to be restrained as well. The benches were on the verge of clearing, but nothing further happened. Mullin and Ewing Jr. were assessed technical fouls.
