Watch: Gaels heavily favored in Provo

Saint Mary's carries one of the nation's most efficient offenses into Provo on Saturday night, and ESPN's BPI gives the Gaels nearly a 3-to-1 edge to make it a season sweep of BYU. (10 p.m. ET on ESPN2/WatchESPN)

Bubble Watch: Other at-large contenders

Gonzaga remains a lock, and Saint Mary's should be in. Illinois State, Middle Tennessee, Akron, UT-Arlington and Wichita State still have work left to do, while UNC Wilmington has dropped out.

Bracketology: Northwestern rises to No. 7 seed

The Wildcats appear to be bracket bound for the first time ever. They're joined by Iowa State (steady), Saint Mary's (falling) and Xavier (falling) on the No. 7 line.

Gonzaga's two "worst" (the term is relative) performances on offense in WCC play have come in road games at BYU and, now, Saint Mary's. The Bulldogs won both games by 10 points. Mark Few's team has an excellent chance to reach the NCAA tournament 33-0.

Saint Mary's fans showed up today. One of the best environments I've ever witnessed live. They're still standing while down double digits. Kudos. This is why I love college basketball.

Gaels need a run now to win this. But Zags just keep attacking. They're so gifted. Forget all the nonsense about their ranking and schedule. Teams will not want this problem in March.

Gonzaga responding to these Saint Mary's runs. Deflating. Hard to overcome a squad with this depth, even at home.

I don't know how it looks on TV, but this is an extremely physical game. Jock Landale caught Karnowski with an elbow early in the second half. Karnowski was furious that refs missed it. But then he got away with contact on Landale's next drive. The officiating in the paint will be significant down the stretch.

If you hear sonnets to Gonzaga's depth and aren't quite sure why, here are two instructive examples: 1) Zach Collins, a potential first-round pick, is probably the most talented player on the floor in Moraga tonight, and he averages 17 minutes per game off the bench. 2) Gonzaga's points, assists and steals leader, Nigel Williams-Goss, spent the last 10 minutes of the first half half on the bench with foul trouble, in a rabid road gym, against a legit Saint Mary's team … and the Bulldogs lead by nine at halftime anyway.

Gonzaga and Saint Mary's combined to make just three 3-pointers, meaning this game's being won and lost in the paint. The Bulldogs and Przemek Karnowski have the advantage there. The Gaels are fortunate to be down just nine to an opponent shooting 76 percent on its 2s.

Might not seem like much but Saint Mary's changed the vibe with a 6-0 run entering the break. Game down to single digits and the Gaels responded to Gonzaga's 17-2 run. But a lot of this is personnel. Zags deep and talented at every spot. Gaels have to clamp down on defense to stop Zags from opening this game up again.

Gaels forcing shots, trying to escape this double-digit Gonzaga lead. Did a better job moving the ball earlier. Can't abandon that.

Karnowski is dominating inside. Gaels trying to collapse and pressure him. But he's also dangerous passing out of the post. Gonzaga has an abundance of open looks available. Gaels have to defend the kick-out too.

Saint Mary's doing a great job attacking the rim and daring Przemek Karnowski to commit a second foul. Nigel Williams-Goss on the bench with two fouls. Critical stretch for the Gaels.

This atmosphere is wild. And that will carry Saint Mary's. But this is also a big moment with College Gameday in town. That's a lot for any team to digest. Randy Bennett told me he thought his players were mature enough for this moment but admitted he wasn't sure what to expect with all of the hype.

Myron Medcalf ESPN Staff Writer

You can't find big men who move like 300-pound Przemek Karnowski. A guy that size shouldn't be that graceful. Doesn't make sense. He's unstoppable right now. Scored his first five shots. Had 9 points in the first game.
