Villanova atop AP poll after tumultuous week

Villanova is the new No. 1 in the AP Top 25, hopping over Michigan State, while Arizona State made a big leap after a tumultuous week in which half of the top 10 lost.

Joe Lunardi Senior Writer, ESPN.com

Arizona State has been to three NCAA tournaments in the past 22 years. There will be no sweating a bid in 2018. Kansas, meanwhile, will fall off the top line for the first time in more than a year. Wichita State moves up.

We have a defensive slugfest in Stillwater, where No. 6 Wichita State leads Oklahoma State 26-23. The Shockers actually ended the half on a run after scoring just nine points in the first 15 minutes. WSU's trying to avenge the Cowboys' 93-76 win in Wichita last year, a result that likely contributed to the Shockers' low seed in the NCAA tournament.

The full list: Nova (2006, 2015, 2017); Georgetown (1985, 1987, 1989), Gonzaga (2013, 2017); St. John's (1985, 1986); Wichita State (2014); Saint Joseph's (2004); and UMass (1996).
