ICYMI: Underdogs were 2-1-1 ATS in Thursday night's Sweet 16 games w/ Oregon +1 and Xavier +7.5 pulling outright upsets. Kansas -5.5 over Purdue was the only favorite to cover while the push was Gonzaga -3 over West Virginia. Unders were 3-1 tonight. For the tournament, underdogs are 28-22-1 ATS (56 percent) w/ one game closing pick 'em while overs still lead 30-21-1 (58.8 percent).

ESPN Stats and Information

West Virginia couldn't find the range on jumpers Thursday against Gonzaga, which advanced with a 61-58 victory in the Sweet 16 matchup. The Mountaineers' Jevon Carter missed two 3-pointers that would have tied the game in the final moments.

Mathews' 3-pointer propels Gonzaga to Elite 8

Jordan Mathews hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with under a minute to play and top-seeded Gonzaga survived a rough shooting night for both teams to beat No. 4 seed West Virginia 61-58 Thursday.

Gonzaga survives -- with defense. The Zags shut down West Virginia all night, but never more definitively or crucially than in the final seconds, when a swarming perimeter stifled Jevon Carter's multiple attempts and kept the Mountaineers from even getting a final shot off before the buzzer. Great, gutty defensive performance by the No. 1 seed.

Eamonn Brennan ESPN Staff Writer

The Mountaineers have been prodding the officials all night about Nigel Williams-Goss's off arm. Their persistence paid off as much as their defensive pressure: Williams-Goss just went to the bench with his fourth.

West Virginia had one more field goal (six) than turnover, shot 1 of 11 from deep, and is tied at the half with the 34-1 No. 1 seed in its time zone. Not bad, that. Not bad.
