In its tournament opener, Oklahoma struggled to contain Egyptian big man Aly Ahmed of Cal State Bakersfield. Sunday, the Sooners will have to face another Egyptian big in VCU's Ahmed Hamdy-Mohamed. Both players are from Alexandria, Egypt. And though Ahmed has been more prolific, Hamdy-Mohamed has scored in every game but one for the Rams this season.

After a relatively quiet afternoon, Buddy Hield finally has found a groove. A Hield steal and pull-up 3 has helped give Oklahoma a 13-2 run and some breathing room. The Sooners now lead Bakersfield, 58-48.

Oklahoma point guard Jordan Woodard, who came into the tournament struggling, has given the Sooners a major boost in the tournament opener vs. Cal State Bakersfield. Woodard has nine points and had been active defensively. OU leads at half, 41-34.

First round: CSUB (15) vs. Oklahoma (2)

The Roadrunners' first NCAA appearance could to be a short one unless it can stop Buddy Hield. The magic number is 70. Oklahoma has averaged 70 points per game in its past 11 games. CSBU is 19-0 when scoring at least 70 points and 5-8 when it does not. Preview

U.S. House Majority Leader and Cal State Bakersfield alum Kevin McCarthy is in OKC hoping for a Roadrunner upset of the second-seeded Sooners.

Count Cal State Bakersfield's Aly Ahmed as one not overwhelmed by facing second-seeded Oklahoma in front of a partisan OKC crowd. "They're a good team, but they're not great," the Roadrunner forward said. "They're beatable." Tipoff looming from Game 2 in OKC.

Oklahoma's system does have its drawbacks that teams can exploit, but can CSU Bakersfield take advantage? Considering the Roadrunners' lack of firepower on offense, probably not. Our statistical model only gives Bakersfield a 7.5 percent chance of springing the upset. Giant Killers (Insider)
