ACC proves it was overrated

All season the ACC was widely considered the best league in the nation. It got nine teams into the NCAA tournament. Well, eight of them are gone now. So what does that tell you?

ESPN Stats and Information

Saturday's 91-66 loss to Xavier tied Florida State's school record for largest margin of defeat in the NCAA tournament. Kentucky beat the Seminoles by 25 back in 1993.

ESPN Stats and Information

A high seed isn't necessarily a good thing for Florida State. The Seminoles haven't reached the Sweet 16 as a single-digit seed under head coach Leonard Hamilton. They've fallen in the Round of 32 twice as a No. 3 seed, including Saturday's 91-66 loss to No. 11 Xavier.

Xavier romps past FSU in 2nd straight upset

Trevon Bluiett scored 29 points and Kaiser Gates came off the bench to contribute 14 as 11th-seeded Xavier pulled off its second upset of the NCAA tournament, beating 3-seed Florida State 91-66.

The 25-point loss to Xavier matches Florida State's worst in the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles also lost by 25 to Kentucky in the Elite 8 in 1993.

If the NCAA wants to hand out a Player of the NCAA Tournament So Far award, I'm nominating Trevon Bluiett. The Xavier junior's scored 50 points over two games on 15-of-29 shooting from the floor. Late in the season the Musketeers lost six straight, but Bluiett's heroics and Sean O'Mara's emergence have propelled the program into its fourth Sweet 16 under Chris Mack.

No. 11 seed Xavier routs No. 3 Florida State 91-66. The ViewFromVegas is the Musketeers did it as 7.5-point underdogs and +280 on the money line (that ties USC's upset of SMU as the largest money-line upset so far in this year's NCAA tournament, though Xavier did close as high as +310 at the Westgate and Golden Nugget).

Xavier played just about a perfect game in knocking off 3-seed Florida State to advance to the Sweet 16. The Musketeers shot a season-best 64.7% from beyond the arc en route to a 25-point win - the largest margin of victory ever for a Xavier team in the NCAA Tournament.

That was maybe the most impressive performance of the NCAA Tournament so far. Xavier dominates Florida State, 91-66. Chris Mack with a coaching clinic.

Jonathan Isaac fouled out with 1:35 left, finishing with 8 points and 12 rebounds in what will likely be the final game of his college career. The Florida State freshman is expected to be a lottery pick in June's NBA draft.

Down 21 with less than 4 minutes left, some Florida State fans are heading for the exits. Not only do they not want to see the end of their team's loss, but they're not sticking around to watch the rival Florida Gators in the nightcap.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Xavier is outplaying Florida State in every facet of the game. Points in the paint, second-chance points, bench points are all areas Florida State should have the edge. Not tonight. Musketeers came out with aggression and haven't slowed down.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Florida State has gone back to settling for jumpers. Made four of its first six shots to start the half -- all 2s -- and then took four straight 3-pointers. They didn't make any of them. Xavier is threatening to run away with the game, as Florida State can't seem to consistently figure out the Musketeers' half-court zone defense.

Adam Reisinger ESPN.com

There are lots of reasons Xavier is leading Florida State, but the simplest one is this: at the under-12 timeout of the second half, both teams have attempted 12 3-pointers. Xavier has made 8, Florida State has made 1.
