Cards drop one spot in Power Rankings

Anas Mahmoud recorded his first double-double during Louisville's upset of then-seventh-ranked Duke (17 points and 11 rebounds). The Cardinals' slide is less about what they did wrong and more about how other ranked teams performed. Power Rankings

Distinct ACC flavor to Joe's No. 3 line

Joe Lunardi promotes Louisville from the 4 line after beating Duke while Florida State drops from a No. 2 following its loss to North Carolina. Virginia is also there, along with Creighton. Bracketology

Four-star junior Emmanuel Akot is a really talented offensive player. 6-foot-6, can make shots off the dribble, initiates and creates offense for others -- has a final four of Arizona, Oregon, Louisville and Utah.

Duke's Allen hears boos, gains supporter in Pitino

Grayson Allen said he ignored any Louisville fans trying to get in his head following a series of tripping incidents -- including one against the Cardinals' Ray Spalding last season.

ESPN Stats and Information

Duke's 18 turnovers in today's 78-69 loss to Louisville were its most in a game since last season against Louisville (also 18). Grayson Allen had a career-high six turnovers.

Louisville coach Rick Pitino told Donovan Mitchell before the Indiana game on New Year's Eve that he needed to play "like a star." Mitchell has reached that level in the second half against Duke, delivering two three-point daggers to help the Cardinals fend off every challenge.

Brian Bennett ESPN Staff Writer

For all the grief he's taken, Grayson Allen has 20 points -- the most he's scored since Dec. 10 against UNLV -- and eight rebounds, albeit with five turnovers. Duke's bigger problem is it can't get any stops at the defensive end.

Anas Mahmoud has 13 points and seven boards. Harry Giles, still coming back from that knee surgery, has 0 and 1.

Rough day for Duke's star-studded freshmen front court. Jayson Tatum just picked up his fourth foul. Harry Giles has two points and one rebound. Marques Bolden didn't see his first action until there was 13:27 left in the game. Meanwhile, Louisville has 26 points in the paint.

Brian Bennett ESPN Staff Writer

Duke will have to hope Jayson Tatum's crossover and three-pointer to end the first half is a good sign, because the Blue Devils have struggled to get any offensive production beyond Luke Kennard and Grayson Allen. Those two guards have 19 of the team's 30 points. Harry Giles failed to score in seven first-half minutes.

ESPN Stats and Information

Louisville is up 34-30 on Duke at halftime (on ESPN). The Cardinals have two points off eight Duke turnovers; they average 15 PPG off turnovers this season.

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

Anas Mahmoud has 13 points and seven boards. Harry Giles, still coming back from that knee surgery, has 0 and 1.

Brian Bennett ESPN Staff Writer

Louisville center Anas Mahmoud has 11 points so far in the first half, including four dunks and a pair of free throws after being fouled on a lob. Mahmoud hadn't scored more than 10 points all season. Duke has suffered far too many interior defensive breakdowns win Amile Jefferson not playing today.

Brian Bennett ESPN Staff Writer

Louisville's student section chanted "Sweep the leg!" as Grayson Allen was at the free-throw line.

Watch: No. 7 Duke at No. 14 Louisville

This is a classic defense of Louisville vs. Duke's offense and the Blue Devils are slight favorites according to ESPN's BPI. The Blue Devils may be without Amile Jefferson, who is nursing a foot injury. Live on ESPN/Watch ESPN

Brian Bennett ESPN Staff Writer

Duke has turned the ball over five times in its first 13 possessions but leads anyway because of some shaky shooting by Louisville. Even without Amile Jefferson, the Blue Devils' length has bothered the Cardinals so far.
