The Cardinals narrowed the deficit to seven points with 2 minutes left, but they never got any closer. The Gophers got 24 points, including five three-pointers, from freshman Gabe Kalscheur. More than eight minutes into the game, Minnesota has yet to go to its bench, which isn't surprising. The Gophers are without injured forward Eric Curry and center Matz Stockman. The Gophers lead Louisvlle 12-11 at the second media timeout.

Minnesota center Matz Stockman will not play for the Gophers today against Louisville. Stockman, who has a concussion, isn't even on the bench as the game gets ready to tip. Averaging 11 minutes, three points, two rebounds.

Richard Pitino on preparing to play Louisville in first round (1:11)

Adam Teicher ESPN Staff Writer

Louisville played nine games against teams seeded either one or two in the NCAA Tournament. They went 2-7 in those games, beating Michigan State and North Carolina and losing to Tennessee, Kentucky, Duke and Virginia and North Carolina twice. " I know our players feel as though there won't be a team we'll face where we'll wonder whether we can compete with them or not," Louisville coach Chris Mack said. " One of the teams that we played I believe will be holding the national championship trophy if it's not us. That's the type of schedule we played."

Gophers' Pitino: Facing L'ville not a distraction

On eve of playing his father's former team in the first round of the NCAA tournament, Minnesota coach Richard Pitino said it wouldn't be a distraction despite all the questions.

Adam Teicher ESPN Staff Writer

Minnesota coach Richard Pitino wasn't going there when talking about facing his father Rick's old school, Louisville, in the first round of the NCAA tournament. He said he was more concerned about when and where the game would be played, in this case Des Moines, and the Cardinals' strengths and weaknesses. "All that other stuff didn't cross my mind, to be honest," he said.
