"Cesar Cedeño was my idol because he played winter ball for my hometown, San Pedro de Macoris [Dominican Republic], when I was growing up. I even remember the green Camaro that he had. It was the same shade of green as the colors of the team. We, the kids, thought that it was a spaceship. A Camaro there, at that time. I did not go home after a game until Cesar Cedeño came out of the clubhouse. I had to see him.
"When I got to the big leagues, I got a chance to be on the same field with Cesar Cedeño. He was the Dodgers' first baseman when I was playing with Philadelphia. I told him my stories about following him in winter ball. He said, 'Wow'. He took me under his wing. He helped me to play better and to steal bases better."
