Twelve days after having surgery on his left ankle, Red Sox catcher/left fielder Blake Swihart rolled (literally, with the aid of a scooter) into the clubhouse before the game. While he expects to be ready for spring training, the majority of his offseason will be spent rehabbing. He's unlikely to be able to play winter ball to make up for lost at-bats after getting injured in early June.

Jason Heyward might be coming out of his season long slump. He was 5 for his last 5 before lining out hard (102.6 mph) to the end the sixth with the lead run at third base against the Dodgers. Heyward has had at least one hit in every game since getting four straight days off. The Cubs and Dodgers have yet to score a run through 6 innings.

Donaldson has first three-homer game of career

Josh Donaldson hit three home runs in the Blue Jays' 9-6 victory over the Twins.

Dustin Pedroia, who is away from the Red Sox tonight to attend family funeral services, will rejoin the team early Monday evening. Pedroia won't start Monday night's game, but will be available off the bench. In fact, manager John Farrell said Pedroia texted that he plans on getting a walkoff hit in the bottom of the ninth.

Machado doing Machado things

Manny Machado makes a diving stop on a scorcher down the third base line, then fires to first from his knees for the out.

In his final reg season game at Dodgers stadium David Ross commits his career high ninth error on an errant pickoff throw advancing a runner from first to third base but Jon Lester struck out the side stranding him there. No score top 2.

Steven Matz will actually pitch Thursday, not Wednesday, according to Terry Collins. That makes a ton of sense, since rosters expand Thursday and it will spare a roster move.
