LHP Hendrickson, Devil Rays agree on one-year deal

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Left-hander Mark Hendrickson agreed to a $1.95 million, one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Monday, avoiding arbitration.

The 6-foot-9 Hendrickson was 11-8 with a 5.90 ERA in 178 1/3 innings for Tampa Bay last season, when he made $377,500.

The former NBA player has a 33-32 career record with a 5.21 ERA in 109 games, including 95 starts. He could make an additional $25,000 this year for reaching 185 and 200 innings pitched.

Five other Devil Rays -- first baseman Travis Lee, right-handers Travis Harper and Jesus Colome, left-hander Casey Fossum and catcher Josh Paul -- remain eligible for arbitration.

Players and teams will exchange salary proposals Tuesday.
