Red Sox agree to one-year deal with reliever Mota

BOSTON -- Red Sox reliever Guillermo Mota avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $3 million contract.

Two other Boston pitchers who were eligible for arbitration, starters Josh Beckett and Bronson Arroyo, exchanged figures with the club and could reach agreements before their hearings next month.

Mota was obtained with Beckett and third baseman Mike Lowell from Florida on Nov. 24. He was 2-2 with a 4.70 ERA and two saves in 56 games last season.

Beckett, who made $2,425,000 last year, asked for $4.9 million while the team offered $3.75 million. Arroyo made $1,925,000 last season and asked for $4.2 million. The team offered $2.95 million.
