WASHINGTON -- Nationals first baseman Nick Johnson will
transfer to a rehabilitation hospital in White Plains, N.Y., on
Wednesday as he recuperates after breaking his right leg in a
collision with a teammate last week.
Johnson will stay at that facility for a week to 10 days, then
return to Washington and be examined by team doctor Ben Shaffer,
before heading home to Sacramento, Calif., for offseason rehab
Johnson was injured Saturday in a gruesome collision with right
fielder Austin Kearns during a 12-6 loss to the New York Mets.
Johnson was carted off the field and taken to a hospital, where a
titanium rod was inserted into his fractured right femur during a
two-hour operation Saturday night.
Jose Vidro, an All-Star second baseman in the past, made his
second consecutive start at first base for the Nationals on Tuesday
night against Philadelphia.
