Yankees give back by playing at Virginia Tech

TAMPA, Fla. -- Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and the rest of the New York Yankees starting lineup will make the trip to Virginia Tech for an exhibition game Tuesday.

The Yankees set up the exhibition game following the on-campus shooting last April that left more than 30 people dead.

"I think it's a wonderful opportunity for our players to see that you don't take life for granted," New York manager Joe Girardi said on a conference call with reporters.

Jeff Karstens will be New York's starting pitcher.

The Yankees also donated $1 million to Virginia Tech's "Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund" last May.
