D-backs seal $3.5M contract with INF Lopez

PHOENIX -- Free-agent infielder Felipe Lopez and the Arizona
Diamondbacks finalized their $3.5 million, one-year contract on

"We feel that Felipe fits our club well," general manager Josh
Byrnes said. "He is a switch hitter with an ability to impact the
game with power, speed and defense."

By adding Lopez, the Diamondbacks fill a hole left when
three-time Gold Glove second baseman Orlando Hudson became a free
agent. Hudson missed time late last season with a wrist injury that
required surgery.

The 28-year-old Lopez has spent eight seasons in the majors and
split this year between Washington and St. Louis. He batted .283
with six homers and 46 RBIs in 143 games.
