Report: Cabrera signs with Nationals

The Baltimore Orioles spent five seasons wating for Daniel Cabrera to live up to his potential.

After the Orioles failed to tender a contract for Cabrera last week, the Washington Nationals decided they would give the 27-year-old pitcher a shot, according to a report in the Baltimore Sun.

Cabrera has signed a one-year, $2.6 million deal with the Nationals, pending a physical.

The Orioles probably would have had to pay him between $3 million and $4 million in 2009 if they offered him arbitration.

Cabrera spent his entire career in the Orioles organization. He was 8-10 with a 5.25 ERA last season and 48-59 with a 5.05 ERA in five big-league seasons.
