Pena signs minor league deal

NEW YORK -- The New York Mets signed outfielder Wily Mo Pena to a minor league contract on Monday.

Pena, who was released by the Washington Nationals on March 28, hit .205 with two homers and 10 RBIs last year before his season ended with a torn labrum on July 18.

The 27-year-old will report to extended spring training in Port St. Lucie, Fla., before joining Triple-A Buffalo.

Pena is a career .253 hitter with his best season coming in 2004 with the Cincinnati Reds, when he hit 26 homers and drove in 66 runs.
