NEW YORK -- The Toronto Blue Jays have purchased the contract of outfielder Dave Dellucci from Triple-A Las Vegas and cleared a roster spot by designating utilityman Russ Adams for assignment.
The 35-year-old Dellucci hit .275 with one RBI in 14 RBIs this year for the Cleveland Indians, who released him June 1. Toronto signed him to a minor league contract nine days later. He batted .317 in 16 games at Las Vegas with three homers and nine RBIs.
He also has played for the Baltimore Orioles (1997), Arizona Diamondbacks (1998-2003), New York Yankees (2003), Texas Rangers (2004-05) and Philadelphia Phillies (2006).
Adams batted .238 in eight games with the Blue Jays this year.
