Pedro Martinez's next step back to the majors will come off a minor league pitching mound in Florida.
Martinez, who has thrown a bullpen session and a four-inning simulated game since signing a $1 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, will pitch for the Class A Clearwater Threshers in a Florida State League game on Sunday. He will face the St. Lucie Mets, an affiliate of the New York Mets, his former employers.
The Phillies want Martinez, who is on the 15-day disabled list, to throw 90 pitches or more in an outing before adding him to the active roster, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
If Martinez remains on schedule, his next start would come July 31 and his third on Aug. 5.
