Berkman, Hawkins return to Astros

MIAMI -- The Houston Astros are getting a much-needed boost in their lineup.

The team announced Wednesday before its game against the Florida Marlins that first baseman Lance Berkman and reliever LaTroy Hawkins were activated off the disabled list.

Reliever Wesley Wright was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain, and second baseman Matt Kata was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock to make space on the roster.

Berkman is hitting .273 with 18 homers and 55 RBIs this season. He had been on the disabled list since July 23 with a strained left calf.

Hawkins is 1-4 with a 2.32 ERA, and had been on the DL since July 28 due to shingles.
