Royals activate right-hander Meche

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Kansas City Royals have activated right-hander Gil Meche from the 15-day disabled list to start Thursday's game against the Minnesota Twins.

Meche was placed on the disabled list July 18 with a lower back strain. He was 4-9 with a 4.50 ERA in his first 19 starts of the season.

Kansas City's Opening Day starter is making his first start since July 11.

To make room for Meche, the Royals placed right-hander Doug Waechter on the 15-day disabled list because of a right shoulder strain. Waechter 0-0 with an 8.44 ERA in five appearances for the Royals.
