Beckett hits Jays' Scutaro in head

BOSTON -- Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Marco Scutaro left Friday night's game in Boston after being hit in the head with a pitch by Red Sox right-hander Josh Beckett in the fourth inning.

The Blue Jays announced that Scutaro had no symptoms other than a bruise, but he would be monitored closely.

Scutaro went to the ground, and home plate umpire Gary Cederstrom motioned for the Toronto training staff to come look at him. After a few minutes, Scutaro walked off under his own power.

John McDonald pinch ran.

Scutaro singled in the first and walked in the second.

Earlier this month, Mets third baseman David Wright and Reds third baseman Scott Rolen have missed time after sustaining concussions from being hit in the head.
