Orlando Cabrera placed on DL

PITTSBURGH -- The NL Central-leading Cincinnati Reds have put shortstop Orlando Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list with a strain in his left side.

Cabrera left Monday night's win at Pittsburgh after grounding out in the ninth inning. He was examined back in Cincinnati.

Reds manager Dusty Baker is hopeful that Cabrera can return relatively quickly. Cabrera is hitting .260 with 37 RBIs.

The Reds recalled infielder Juan Francisco from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

Baker says Paul Janish will take over at shortstop, with Francisco and Miguel Cairo as reserve infielders.
