Nick Punto to return from hurt hamstring

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins plan to reinstate infielder Nick Punto from the 15-day disabled list before their next game.

The Twins made the announcement Sunday. They host the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, when Punto will rejoin the active roster as a backup at shortstop, third base and second base.

Punto has been on the DL since July 30 because of a strained left hamstring.

To make room, the Twins optioned catcher Jose Morales to Triple-A Rochester. The Twins also returned utility infielder Matt Tolbert from his rookie-league rehab assignment and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester. Tolbert was placed on the DL on July 3 with a bruised right middle finger.
