Catcher Carlos Ruiz activated from DL

PHILADELPHIA -- The National League East-leading Philadelphia Phillies have activated catcher Carlos Ruiz from the disabled list.

Ruiz was sidelined with lower back inflammation. He appeared in two extended spring training games and went 1 for 3 with a run scored Thursday night in a one-game rehab assignment for Single-A Clearwater.

Ruiz replaces catcher Brian Schneider, who was placed on the 15-day DL with a left hamstring strain Thursday.

Ruiz is hitting .226 with two homers and nine RBIs. Last year, he led the Phillies with a .302 average and .400 on-base percentage.
