The Reds were so concerned about the shortstop's ailing left side that they brought infielder Chris Valaika back from their spring facility in Arizona in case they needed to add him to the roster.
But Cabrera fielded grounders and took batting practice before Sunday's game. He said he felt no pain and the Reds decided to put him back in the lineup, replacing Paul Janish in the eighth slot.
Cabrera aggravated the injury in Cincinnati's 7-4 loss Friday night. He missed 27 games in August and September after pulling muscles in his side.
