Although it might seem like eons ago, it's actually been a decade since Baltimore made the playoffs. That's 10 years too many for the Orioles -- and their fans -- who are looking to turn things around and see October for the first time since 1997.
There are some positive signs to indicate things could be different. Erik Bedard, Daniel Cabrera and Adam Loewen have the potential to be a nasty 1-2-3 in an improving rotation. Closer Chris Ray (33 saves last season) is battle-tested. And the bullpen is deeper with the acquisitions of Chad Bradford, Todd Williams, Danys Baez and Jamie Walker.
The offense is more than just Miguel Tejada. Aubrey Huff (five straight 20-HR seasons) adds some pop. Brian Roberts is an aggressive, hard-nosed gamer. Ramon Hernandez has proven he's a threat. And Nick Markakis shows no signs of a sophomore slump.
