Well, baseball survived Yasiel Puig's 32.1-second home run trot as the Dodgers beat the Mets 8-2. The Dodgers have clocked 12 home runs in the first three games of the series, already tied for third-most homers the Mets have allowed in a series in franchise history. It's up to Steven Matz stop the bleeding on Thursday.

Jarrod Dyson breaks up Justin Verlander's perfect game with a one-out bunt single in the sixth, perfectly placed past Verlander and too far for Miguel Cabrera to make a play. And, no, Dyson didn't break any sacred rules. You're trying to win a game here.

We're seeing vintage Justin Verlander tonight at Safeco Field. He's perfect through five innings with nine strikeouts, hitting 97 mph and blowing his fastball past the Mariners on several occasions. He's at 76 pitches, so he'll run up a high pitch count if he keeps this going.

Yasiel Puig breaks open the game with a towering, three-run moon shot of a home run to left-center, standing at home plate to admire his work. In related news: the Mets are playing a bad game of baseball.

The Mets load the bases with nobody out against Rich Hill in the fourth inning on a walk, single and error, but Hill responds with strikeouts of Jose Reyes, Gavin Cecchini and pitcher Tyler Pill to escape the jam. Game tied 1-1.

The Dodgers re-signed Rich Hill, hoping he could be their No. 2 starter behind Clayton Kershaw, but he's had blister problems and has lost the feel and command of his curveball. He's been a little better tonight, allowing a Curtis Granderson home run through three innings, but at least hasn't walked anyone and has twice fanned Yoenis Cespedes.

Roger Clemens was at the current Yankee Stadium for the first time since it opened in 2009. A team spokesman said Clemens was making an appearance on the suite level. He met with GM Brian Cashman. Clemens walked through the clubhouse, but reporters were talking to current players. The Yankees and Clemens have kept their distance since he was named in the 2007 Mitchell Report.

The Yankees have snapped their seven-game losing streak and reclaimed first place. They beat the Angels, 8-4. Didi Gregorius hit a two-run homer and Matt Holliday had a solo shot. Aaron Judge went 1-for-5 with three strikeouts.

The Yankees' Tyler Clippard is lost. After apparently losing his seventh inning job, he was called on for mop-up duty in the 9th tonight and couldn't get an out. He gave up a two-run homer to the Angels' Martin Maldonado before manager Joe Girardi turned to Aroldis Chapman to protect a four-run lead. Clippard was booed off the mound.

Rockies starter Jeff Hoffman was cruising along with a 1-0 lead through three innings, but he just had a Coors Field inning as the Diamondbacks put up 10 runs on nine hits, with nine of the runs charged to Hoffman. He entered the game with a 2.25 ERA and departs with a 4.29 ERA.
