Of Curtis Granderson's 22 homers this season, his seventh-inning shot against the Marlins on Tuesday was only his third with a man on base. It's crazy to have 22 homers and 38 RBIs, no?

ESPN Stats and Information

Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer now has 12 10-strikeout games this season, most in MLB ahead of Clayton Kershaw (9), and Stephen Strasburg (8). His 12 10-K games are the second-most for a single season in Nationals/Expos history behind Pedro Martínez (18).

John Farrell, from earlier today, on using longtime starter Clay Buchholz as a setup man: "I want Clay to feel like that's his place in this bullpen right now." A few hours later, in his first truly high-leverage opportunity as a setup man, Clay Buchholz gives up a tie-breaking solo homer to Evan Longoria that clears everything in left field.

The Orioles beat the Blue Jays in a battle of Cy Young contenders - kind of. J.A Happ and Zach Britton were never in the game at the same time, but Happ started for Toronto (6.1 IP, 3 ER, ND) and Britton finished for Baltimore, collecting his 39th save in 39 tries as the Birds won 5-3 to move within three games of the Jays.

Curtis Granderson on Tuesday became the third player in franchise history to homer twice in a game he did not start. The others: Hawk Taylor in 1964 against the Phillies and Scott Hairston against the Nationals in 2011. Granderson pinch hit for Seth Lugo in the sixth and went deep in consecutive innings.

Since joining the Blue Jays three months ago, Jason Grilli hadn't allowed multiple earned runs in an outing - until now. Grilli just served up a mammoth two-run blast Matt Wieters to give the Orioles a 5-3 eighth inning lead.

First major-league hit for JaCoby Jones turns out to be impactful. An RBI double in the bottom of the sixth gives the Tigers a 4-3 lead and leaves his mom practically in tears as TV cameras pan to her in the stands. Big moment in his MLB debut.

At his current pace, Adrian Beltre will finish the year with 29 homers, 105 RBI, and 83 runs. Career: Closing in on 600 doubles, 450 homers.

First, Hanley Ramirez ties the game by wrapping a 324-foot homer around Pesky's Pole. Then, he hits a popup to shallow right field that falls in for an RBI single. Sometimes, being lucky is half the battle. 3-1, Red Sox.

Adam Wainwright is pitching on his 35th birthday tonight. It is the third time in his career he has pitched on the anniversary of his birth. For his 25th birthday, he threw two scoreless innings of relief against the Florida Marlins and for his 28th birthday he pitched six innings, allowing a run on three hits against the Washington Nationals in a 2-1 Cardinals win.

Jose Reyes is 4-for-4 for the Mets on Tuesday night. It's actually his second such performance this month. He also went 4-for-4 against the Giants on Aug. 19. Reyes is hitting .361 in August.

Seth Lugo is a keeper. He tossed five scoreless frames to complete his outing against the Marlins on Tuesday, lowering his ERA to 2.60. Lugo allowed only a two-run homer to Christian Yelich in the opening frame of his six-inning, 89-pitch outing. He next starts on Sunday against the Nationals and should remain in the rotation for the foreseeable future.

Max Scherzer loses no-hitter in the 6th

Scherzer's bid for a third no-hitter in two years ended when Freddy Galvis, the first batter in the sixth, slugged a double. The Nats still lead 3-0. Follow live

Manny Machado made his 100th career homer count. His two-run shot gave the Orioles a 3-1 lead over the Jays and Cy Young candidate J.A. Happ. Machado's been hitting lasers all series with nothing to show for it. Until now.
