Before game, manager A.J. Hinch said Astros were "one click away" from busting out. Click. Yuli Gurriel clears the bases with a three-run double, giving Houston the big hit it has been looking for since the end of Game 2. It was only the Stros' fifth extra-base hit of the series.

Lance McCullers Jr. has given the Astros five scoreless innings so far against the Yankees. Coupled with his relatively solid relief performance in Game 3 of the Division Series, it appears McCullers has fixed his problems from the last month of the season. But Houston's offense remains in a deep slumber against Yankees starter Sonny Gray.

An American classic:

Well, that was really strange! Aaron Judge was involved in some curious base-running in the fourth. First, Judge was nearly doubled-up on a short fly to right. Originally, Judge was called out even after a poor throw from Astros right fielder Josh Reddick. The call was overturned by replay. Then, before another pitch was thrown, Judge took off, trying to steal second and was easily thrown out by Astros starter Lance McCullers, One possible explanation was that the Yankees saw that Judge hadn't touched second on his way back to first on the original play so he took off for second before the Astros could appeal. Nonetheless, Judge was out and the fourth ended.

Today is the 13th anniversary of Dave Roberts' famous stolen base against Mariano Rivera in the 2004 ALCS, the steal that made that comeback possible. He said he had a funny story about that. "A couple weeks ago, I guess Yu Darvish was surfing the Internet and came across that play and realized, oh yeah, that was his manager out there."

Joe Maddon on taking slumping Javier Baez out of the lineup for NLCS Game 3: "I hate playing any game of baseball without Javier Baez because he's such a dynamic defender."

Jesse Rogers ESPN Staff Writer

The new batting order mostly is about Kyle Schwarber hitting second. Joe Maddon wants to get him the extra AB or two before Dave Roberts goes to a lefty. Same goes with Ben Zobrist who hasn't been hitting much right handed in the playoffs.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

No surprise that Joe Maddon is making some changes in his lineup, with Ben Zobrist playing second base for Javier Baez, who is 0-for-19 in the postseason, and inserting Kyle Schwarber into the second spot in the order. While the bats have struggled, keep in mind that in their seven playoff games, six of them have been started by opposing pitchers who ranked in the top six in the NL in WAR.

With a weekday start and the Cubs in an 0-2 NLCS hole, it's a pretty subdued scene in Wrigleyville hours before Game 3.

My cab driver Adam Luciani was born in Italy, but has lived close to Wrigleyville for 20 years and he's become a big baseball fan. He's predicting the Cubs will come back in the series. "Just look at last year, Even when they were losing, they thought they could win," the retired mechanical engineer said. "That's why you need young players. To have that energy." Forget all the numbers and analysis. You have to trust your cabbie. This series isn't over.

Joe Maddon has changed up his batting order as he'll have Ben Zobrist lead off and play second while Kyle Schwarber will bat second. The rest of the order includes Bryant, Rizzo, Contreras, Jay, Russell, Heyward and Hendricks.

One thing to watch during tonight's NLCS Game 3 at Wrigley: the flags on the outfield foul poles. The wind is blowing straight out now, and that could be what the Cubs' need to ignite their struggling offense.

Red Sox left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez had right knee patellofemoral ligament reconstruction that will keep him from pitching for 6 months, the team has announced.

High praise from Astros ace Dallas Keuchel: "The Red Sox are the most knowledgeable group of hitters that I've ever pitched against. That's a compliment to their coaching staff, to their front office, to getting them ready, to the players to having a game plan."
