Here is Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta talking about the surprising return of Kyle Schwarber.

ESPN Stats and Information

Kyle Schwarber will be the first player in MLB history to play within his team's first 10 games of a season, then not again until the World Series, according to Elias Sports Bureau research. Elias also notes that no non-pitcher has ever started a World Series game without recording a regular-season hit that year. Schwarber went 0-for-4 in the first two games of the season before getting injured, and he's starting at DH in Game 1 Tuesday night.

Every member of Red Sox's coaching staff, including bench coach Torey Lovullo, is under contract for 2017, though Dave Dombrowski seems almost resigned that Lovullo will get a managerial job elsewhere. Thus far, the Diamondbacks have not asked permission to interview Lovullo, who nevertheless figures to be a leading candidate due to long relationship with new GM Mike Hazen.

Red Sox don't plan on making outside hires to fill baseball ops roles, according to Dave Dombrowski, who believes team is "more than capable of filling a lot of the roles from an internal perspective." To wit: Ex-GMs Frank Wren and Allard Baird will play larger roles in assisting Dombrowski with trade talks.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

Dave Dombrowski interviewed Amiel Sawdaye and Eddie Romero for what amounted to Red Sox's GM vacancy, but decided neither had the requisite major-league executive experience to be a GM. With that, Sawdaye decided to go with Mike Hazen as assistant GM in Arizona, and Dombrowski promoted Romero to "be involved with me in every step of the operation" as assistant GM in Boston.

It's 50 degrees in Cleveland, but when LeBron says he wants an ice cream truck, you do it. Blue Bunny came from Iowa to make it happen

For Game 1 of the World Series tonight, the Indians will wear their alternate navy blue jerseys (which they've worn throughout the postseason except in Game 1 of the ALDS against Boston, when they wore white) and their Chief Wahoo caps (which they've worn for every postseason game so far).
