Mike Trout began this game by walking for the 12th time in 38 plate appearances, but Justin Upton followed with a double, allowing Trout to then score on a wild pitch. Upton is almost solely responsible for ensuring that Trout gets enough pitches to hit.

Mike Trout, who already has a higher WAR than 74 position-player Hall of Famers, said 1,000 games "definitely came faster than I thought. I feel blessed to be up here," he added. "I take pride in coming to the ballpark. I don't take it for granted, because you never know."

The Bryce Harper leadoff experiment (2.0) is off to a good start. Batting atop the order for the first time in six weeks, Harper had two walks, a sac fly, and a double in four trips to help the Nationals beat the Orioles 4-2. As if the Angels needed another pitching injury — Tyler Skaggs, who has allowed one earned run in 20 innings this month, has been scratched from his scheduled start with tightness in his right hamstring. John Lamb will start in his place.

Mike Trout's 1,000th game will come as a DH. He has a strained right index finger, the Angels say, and he will he re-evaluated "in a few days" to see if he can play the field.

Bryce Harper is hitting leadoff for the first time in six weeks. Nats manager Davey Martinez says he made the switch to help his slumping slugger get back to taking his walks. Harper batted leadoff early May, drawing two walks. Since being moved out of the top spot, he has 45 strikeouts (most in NL) against 13 walks, and is hitting just .190.

The Yankees picked up their 50th win of the season Thursday, beating the Mariners, 4-3. The win earned the Yankees their seventh series sweep (they had 10 last year). Aaron Judge and Miguel Andújar were the heroes, hitting a pair of first-inning two-run homers that gave the Yankees all the scoring they needed.

With Miguel Andújar's first-inning homer Thursday, the Yankees now have seven players each with 10 or more homers. Per Elias, it's the first time they've had that many players in double figures before July 1 since 2009. The Yankees won the World Series that year.
