The Cardinals put pitcher Mike Leake on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of shingles and recalled left-handed reliever Dean Kiekhefer from Triple-A Memphis. Leake was replaced by the Cardinals' top prospect, Alex Reyes, in the Cardinals' rotation on Friday. Reyes, who is 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA in 14 innings, likely will continue to pitch in Leake's spot while he is out.

T.J. Rivera has been demoted to clear the roster spot for Rafael Montero's spot start on Monday against the Marlins. Las Vegas' season ends next Monday, so at a maximum the demotion should last a week.

Urban Meyer has known about Tim Tebow's plans to give baseball a shot for a while, and not surprisingly, he continues to believe his former QB at Florida can accomplish what he sets his mind to doing. "Incredible, incredible baseball player," Meyer said reflecting on watching him in high school. " ... I'm very biased and everybody knows that, but don't count him out."

Asdrubal Cabrera is the National League Player of the Week. He hit .545 for the week, plus had three homers in a two-game span. Cabrera departed Sunday's game in the first inning with a recurrence of left knee discomfort. Gary Sanchez of the Yankees won the AL award.
