Watch Matt Szczur discuss staying with the Cubs. He was told yesterday after the game he'd made the roster as he's out of minor league options. The team placed Brian Duensing on the DL to make room for him.

The Cubs will keep Matt Szczur and Tommy La Stella on the roster for now as pitcher Brian Duensing will begin the season on the DL as he's recovering from back spasms, per Theo Epstein.

Though he's not in the lineup again today Addison Russell says his back is 100 percent and thinks he'll play Thursday and/or Friday in Houston. He says he'll be ready for opening day.

Drew Hutchinson has been demoted by the Pirates, so it's Tyler Glasnow versus Trevor Williams for their fifth-starter job. Obviously we know fantasy owners' preference! Just mind the WHIP/BB% with Glasnow, as that's where his downside resides.

Tyler Thornburg: "A lot of things" could've led to shoulder impingement. How about Red Sox's shoulder program, which is more extensive than what he was used to in Milwaukee? "If anything, it might have fatigued my arm a little bit before the first outing. Or it possibly could've pointed out some weaknesses in my shoulder." Thornburg added he's "never had shoulder issues whatsoever."

The Cardinals were not pleased by comments from second baseman Kolten Wong earlier this week. He told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch he would rather be traded than be used as a platoon player, a possibility that has arisen in part because he is batting .184 with a .558 OPS this spring. Jedd Gyorko, who led the team in home runs last year, would be the right-handed part of any platoon. "I think his comments were a little tough given the fact we have other players playing well," general manager John Mozeliak told ESPN Wednesday. "Starting Sunday, we're playing to win. Whenever a player is trying to accomplish something in spring training, that can't be an excuse for why things aren't going well. Overall, we've had a very positive camp and I certainly don't want someone's comments to bring us down."

With Josh Rutledge (hamstring) bound for DL, manager John Farrell mentioned Marco Hernandez and Steve Selsky as options for final Red Sox roster spot. Hernandez, a left-handed hitter who hits lefties well, has had a strong camp. Selsky has experience at first base, important with Mitch Moreland (flu) and Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) compromised.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

Mitch Moreland has the flu and will be sent directly to Boston rather than accompanying Red Sox to DC-Annapolis for exhibition games Friday and Saturday. Team is hopeful Moreland will be fully recovered by Opening Day on Monday.

The Dodgers optioned RHP Josh Fields and LHP Adam Liberatore. There are 41 players remaining in big league camp with six days remaining before Opening Day.
