Kris Bryant is on fire. He's hit his 34 and 35th HR's of the season on Friday against the Dodgers. The second one coming in the tenth inning to break a 4-4 tie. He has 9 HR's this month. The Cubs are 3 outs away from a come from behind win as Bryant continues to make his case for MVP.

Kris Bryant hit his league leading (tied) 34th home run of the season, a blast to center in the 8th. The run means the Cubs have scored at least 3 in 24 consecutive games, the most games in a row since 1996. The Dodgers still lead 4-3.

The Dodgers' Adrian Gonzalez hit six HRs during a 17-game hit streak that ended Thursday. His HR in the seventh inning against the Cubs on Friday could be the start of another streak. The Dodgers lead 4-2.

Big moment for Mike Montgomery as he works out of another jam in the fifth. He's been off his game but kept the Cubs in it having thrown 5 innings using a season high 91 pitches. He only trails 3-2 having given up 6 hits and 4 walks. Not the best outing but perhaps it's a learning experience as Joe Maddon left him despite clearly not having his best command.

Some perspective on Tigers LF Justin Upton's recent production: Following Friday's two-run homer, Upton has 4 HR's and 11 RBI in last five games. In the months of April and May combined -- a span of 48 games -- he had 3 HR's and 11 RBI, according to ESPN Stats and Information. Streaky player. Tigers just hope he can sustain what he's doing now. Said pitcher Justin Verlander: 'He can carry a club by himself when he gets hot."

Carlos Ruiz has reached base in each of his first three at-bats with the Dodgers. He has been hit by a pitch, walked and delivered a single in the fifth inning. He was brought in to help against left-handers and has done that already.

Chase Utley has done plenty over a long career, but the play from his back might have been a new one. Utley saved a run for the Dodgers when he made a diving stop on the Cubs' Ben Zobrist and threw to first base while laying down, looking straight up at the sky.

Anthony Rizzo drove in his 88th run of the season in the fifth inning against the Dodgers on Friday. He's been overshadowed lately by a hot hitting Kris Bryant but remains in the hunt for the NL MVP. He's finished 10th and then fourth the last two years.
