Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Clayton Kershaw was taken out as a "precaution," but obviously there's concern there because of the herniated disk that robbed him of 2 1/2 months last year. Roberts believes this issue is more "muscular," and that he didn't have the shooting pain down his leg like he did last year. Kershaw will be going on the disabled list, and they'll have more information on his status on Monday. He's going to undergo further testing. Brandon McCarthy will also go on the DL with a blister issue.

ESPN Stats and Information

Clayton Kershaw didn't factor into the decision after his second-inning injury, but the Dodgers went on to win for the 15th straight time in a game he started. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, that's tied for the longest winning streak in a single pitcher's starts in franchise history.

Dodgers win, 5-4, on a 10th-inning walk-off hit by Logan Forsythe, and thus avoid their first loss when leading by three entering the ninth since Aug. 12, 2010.

No apples-to-apples recent Red Sox precedent for calling up Rafael Devers to play regularly in heat of pennant race. Andrew Benintendi was two years older and came from a college program when he got called up last year. Even in 2013, Xander Bogaerts wasn't called up to play every day. "I think not playing on a regular basis was a good thing for me," Bogaerts said. "I was able to watch the game, enjoy the game as a bench player. ... This guy maybe's got to play every day again."

It had to happen some day, and that day was today. Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen has blown his first save of the season, giving up three ninth-inning runs to the Braves to tie this game at 4. Entered with a 0.88 ERA in 41 innings.

As much as anything, lack of appealing third-base trade candidates prompted decision to call up Rafael Devers. "Our people said, 'Well, why would you try that [trade]? Why don't you try him?'" Dave Dombrowski said. "He's in a position, we think he can do it. The request for some of the guys that would be minimally better for us have been very large, and so we think that he gives us as good a chance as anybody we've had a chance to acquire -- for third base."

Watch Kyle Hendricks discuss his return to the rotation on Monday. He's been on the disabled list since early June with pain in his middle finger on his pitching hand.

Red Sox will call up Rafael Devers.

Angels 3, Red Sox 2: A team that craves for more offense, particularly at third base, lost on a home run by the opposing third baseman. How's that for a cruel twist? Luis Valbuena went deep in the seventh inning, one of three solo homers allowed by Rick Porcello, who fell to 4-13 in a continuation of his luckless anti-Cy Young season. Hanley Ramirez homered.

Including his three hits today, Red Sox top prospect Rafael Devers is 11-for-34 (.324) with one double, two homers, three walks, eight strikeouts, .378 on-base pct., .529 slugging in nine games at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Clayton Kershaw exited today's start with right lower back tightness, the team said. Not what you want to hear. He missed two and a half months with a herniated disk in his lower back last year.

ESPN Stats and Information

Adrián Beltré recorded two hits Sunday afternoon against the Rays, raising his career total to 2,989. Next up for the Rangers is a three-game set against the Marlins; Beltré has hit .361 in his career against the Marlins, his second-highest batting average against any opponent

You have to wonder if Clayton Kershaw's potential injury will motivate the Dodgers' front office to get even more aggressive after someone like Yu Darvish, even if it isn't necessarily serious. Darvish would only be a rental, one who can't be given a qualifying offer if traded, but the Dodgers can't take chances with a group this good.

Trayce Thompson pinch-hitting, so, Clayton Kershaw is officially out. Ross Stripling will take over to begin the third inning.

Clayton Kershaw disappeared into the trainers' room after the top half of the second inning, and now Ross Stripling is warming up. Looks like he will take it from here. No word yet on what might be ailing Kershaw, who has been pitching at his best.

Dodger Stadium just held its collective breath for a couple minutes. Clayton Kershaw was checked on by the Dodgers' trainer with two outs in the second, with rumors swirling about the team's interest in Yu Darvish. He threw a couple practice pitches and stayed in, ending the half-inning with a strikeout.
