Joe Maddon said Tommy La Stella addressed the team before Wed game and seemed to be accepting by his friends/teammates. Maddon called it the concept of a team working at its best.

Here is the scouting report on Mariners newly acquired outfielder Ben Gamel who the acquired from the Yankees for two minor league pitchers: Solid athlete/baseball player. 24 year old w/ above avg hit, above field, 55 runner w/ 55 arm. More gaps type than HR power. Gets on base, can steal a base and can play all three positions. Fits Mariners team and Safeco Park well. ML ready but was blocked with Yankees behind Brett Gardner. The Yankees get Orozco and De Paula both projection guys w/ good arms.

Two starts since coming back from his shoulder injury, Steven Wright said there are "still some lingering effects definitely going on." Like what? "It's just been off," Wright said. "It was hard for me to throw a pitch with conviction. A little bit is trusting the arm to make sure that it's good. It feels OK."

Mike Trout and Albert Pujols (who's been bothered by some mild plantar fasciitis) are both getting a rest today for the Angels against Cincinnati. "We're trying to add depth to our team," said manager Mike Scioscia. "I guess we found one way to add bench depth."

Read into this what you will: the Tigers found two praying mantises in the dugout this series, one in the actual dugout, one peering over "with two little eyeballs" as manager Brad Ausmus described. Ausmus said he finds it "amusing" that Kansas City Royals have a "rally mantis" but then again "they've been hot so I guess I can't really argue with it." Ausmus, however, seemed disturbed at the suggestion of bringing the pair of mantises with them on the road to KC. He grew up in CT, which passed legislature in 1977 to name the European "praying" Mantis the state insect. Sounded wary of violating any laws protecting or transporting the bugs. I'm not making this up.

The Orioles have claimed Drew Stubbs off waivers from Texas. The 31-year old centerfielder gives the O's insurance in case Adam Jones' hamstring issue lingers. Jones is not in the lineup for a fifth straight game, but did take batting practice today. "He gives us a good solid dependable defensive outfielder," said GM Dan Duquette of Stubbs, "and also a pretty good base stealer." A former first round pick in 2006, Stubbs ranks 9th among active players with an 82.9% success rate on SB's. In 39 games with the Braves and Rangers this year, he slashed .259/.343/.414.
