Closers market: Kenley Jansen is expected to sign before Aroldis Chapman does. The Marlins, Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs and Nationals still among the clubs in need of a closer. The Yankees have Chapman as their first choice. Other closers available include the Royals Wade Davis and free agent Greg Holland who is represented by Scott Boras, while the Rays will at least listen on Alex Colome.

The Nationals are telling teams that if they complete their deal for Chris Sale, they would make Gio Gonzalez available. In a light free agent pitching market should have no trouble moving him.

Luis Rojas will manage Double-A Binghamton, which is now known as the Rumble Ponies. He moves up from St. Lucie to replace Vegas-bound Pedro Lopez. Glenn Abbott will serve as pitching coach and Luis Natera will serve as hitting coach.

If Red Sox are able to sign free agent Mitch Moreland, it will please David Ortiz. In a conversation last week in the D.R., Ortiz asked who won AL Gold Glove at first base. Told it was Moreland, Ortiz said, "I always believed that kid could be special. It depends on how much (a team) plays him."

The Mets already have done recent deals with CAA for Yoenis Cespedes and Tim Tebow. That agency has plenty of free-agent relievers who seem on the Mets' radar too: Belisle, Blanton, Tazawa, Storen and Logan. Before committing, though, it seems the Mets would like to trade an outfielder, likely Jay Bruce, in order to see if they can get a reliever in return and lessen the need to rely on free agency.
