Clay Buchholz will return to a bullpen role for the Red Sox, but manager John Farrell said it will be an enhanced responsibility, likely involving an opportunity to pitch the eighth inning. Sox are still seeking a primary setup man, with Farrell preferring to use Brad Ziegler mostly against right-handed hitters.

Andrew Benintendi could play again before the end of the regular season, according to Red Sox manager John Farrell. Benintendi doesn't have structural damage to his left knee, a diagnosis confirmed Friday after the Red Sox rookie left fielder underwent another MRI, an X-ray and a CT scan. "This could've been much, much worse," Farrell said.

Mets manager Terry Collins said he hadn't talked to GM Sandy Alderson yet but said "there's a pretty good chance" that Jacob deGrom will skip his next start. DeGrom has had rough outings against both the Giants and Cardinals in his last two starts. Alderson said the Mets studied TrackMan data and found some of DeGrom's pitches are lacking the movement they typically have. "When he's had time off, he's bounced back and been dominant," Collins said.

Seen in Tigers clubhouse: Boxes upon boxes of Hostess snacks delivered to Tigers CF Cameron Maybin today. Asked him if he's ever expressed an interest in the multitude of Twinkies, Donettes and Sno Balls he received. He seemed as perplexed as everyone else about their arrival. He is planning on donating to a local homeless shelter.

The Texas Rangers have placed relief pitcher Jeremy Jeffress on the Major League Baseball restricted list for Friday's game against the Cleveland Indians. Jeffress, who has a 4.00 ERA in nine appearances after being acquired at the trade deadline, was arrested this morning and charged with driving while intoxicated. That incident has prevented Jeffress from attending Friday night's game and fulfilling his contract. "The Rangers are certainly disappointed in Jeremy's actions of early this morning," said President of Baseball Operations Jon Daniels. "We have been in touch with Jeremy's representatives and Major League Baseball, and are continuing to work through this situation and gather more information."

Upon entering the Phillies locker room today, players were greeted with a message on the dry-erase board that read "I will miss all you guys. Good luck the rest of the season. Love you all, Chooch!" Ruiz departed for Los Angeles to join his new team, the Dodgers, after being traded on Thursday.

My favorite story about Carlos Ruiz's leadership qualities: Roy Halladay told me he was pitching one night, gave up a couple of hits late in the game and out came Charlie Manuel. Next thing he knew, Ruiz was running to the mound because he clearly wanted to get there before the manager. "He said, `Don't let him take you out of this game. We need you in this game,'" Halladay said. "So I said to Charlie, `I want to stay in.' He looked at me. He looked at Chooch. Then he looked at Chase (Utley), who was standing behind me. And he knew he was pretty much outnumbered." So of course he stayed in the game. By Carlos Ruiz's decree.

It's a sheep! ... or maybe a goat

There was quite the disruption on the field during this minor league baseball game.
