Both the Dodgers (69-31) and Astros (67-33) have won two-thirds of their first 100 games. Since the World Series was introduced in 1903, this is the eighth time that two teams have won at least 67 of their first 100 games in the same season. Four of those eight happened in the first ten World Series, and this is the first instance since the Yankees and Indians in 1954. In the five previous instances where the teams were in different leagues, they went on to meet in the World Series four times.

The Nationals fell 7-0 to the Brewers, just the third time this season they've been shut out. Only the Reds (twice) have been blanked less among NL teams. Despite the loss, Washington (59-39) still boasts the third-best record in baseball.

This is worth remembering in Gray/NYY talks: Oakland's evaluators have liked NYY prospect Jorge Mateo in past conversations.

Joey Gallo, this is your life: With his two-homer game, Gallo now has more multi-homer games (2) than multi-single games (1). Thirty-nine of his 54 hits have gone for extra bases.

With top prospect Rafael Devers set to make his major-league debut, the Red Sox are still looking to add a bat to their lineup. Several first base/DH types may wind up being available, including Jay Bruce, Lucas Duda and Yonder Alonso. "I know every effort is being made to find a fit," manager John Farrell said. "Where that leads us remains to be seen in these final days up to the deadline, but my conversations with Dave (Dombrowski), I know every effort is being made to do just that."

Sonny Gray, in what could be his final start for the A's, certainly didn't hurt his trade value with six strong innings against the Blue Jays. He did give up four runs, but wasn't hit hard and his own error led to four unearned runs. He fanned nine and threw 103 pitches. Rumors suggest his next start could come in a Yankees jersey and while A's fans understand why it would happen, that won't make it easy to accept.

Billy Hamilton scorches a double and the Reds cut the NYY lead to 3-2. Betances out; Adam Warren enters.

Dellin Betances has walked two of the first three hitters he has faced in the 8th. 2-1 count on Cozart. NYY lead 3-1.

ESPN Stats and Information

Todd Frazier ground into a triple play in the second inning on a play where the Yankees scored a run. It was the first triple play turned by the Reds since 1995, which was the longest drought by any team. According to Elias, it was the first run-scoring triple play since the Mariners scored on a Twins triple play in 2006.

Sonny Gray's night probably over, after 6 IP. He had great stuff, but his final line muddied by poor defense. 4 runs/0 earned, 2 BB, 9 K.
