Manny Machado made his 100th career homer count. His two-run shot gave the Orioles a 3-1 lead over the Jays and Cy Young candidate J.A. Happ. Machado's been hitting lasers all series with nothing to show for it. Until now.

For the first time this series, Orioles fans are on their feet after Steve Pearce lines a laser homer to left off Jays starter J.A. Happ to tie the game at 1-1. The bomb was Pearce's 5th in 28 career AB's against Happ.

The Mets are getting by without their primary pitchers. Robert Gsellman limited the Phillies to one run through six innings before things unraveled on Sunday. Rafael Montero then tossed five scoreless innings against the Marlins in the series opener on Monday. And now Seth Lugo keeps wriggling free of minefields. After allowing a two-run homer to Christian Yelich in the first, Lugo has tossed three straight scoreless innings. He has stranded runners in scoring position in each of his last two frames.

Incident that led to the arrest and assault charge of Tigers pitcher Warwick Saupold began when Saupold and two minor-league Pittsburgh Pirates players were informed of last call at local Toledo bar and "became disgruntled," according to a police report obtained by Argument began between players and a bartender and patron, which later escalated outside the establishment. Two police officers on the scene witnessed Saupold punch patron in the face, after which he was arrested. Two other players were also arrested after taunting officers and attempting to interfere with arrest. Patron later charged as well.

It took nearly a month, but the Yankees finally completed the trade that sent Ivan Nova to the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 1. In return, the Yankees get OF Tito Polo and LHP Stephen Tarpley, both of whom played for the Pirates single-A affiliate in Bradenton. Nova is 4-0 with a 2.87 ERA in five starts for the Pirates.

Joe Girardi pinch-hit for both Aaron Judge and Tyler Austin in the late stages of Monday's 8-5 loss to the Kansas City Royals but both rookies are back in the lineup tonight against RHP Edinson Volquez. Mark Teixeira, who hit for Austin in the eighth inning, is sitting out with neck soreness, a problem that has plagued him this season.
