The father of Charlie Culberson, who hit walkoff for Scully's last call at Dodger Stadium was BORN year Scully called 1st game there (1962).

So far David Ross has two standing ovations and a curtain call as he plays his last reg season game at Wrigley Field. He just homered to put the Cubs up 1-0.

David Schoenfield SweetSpot blogger

David Ross hit .214 in 2013, .184 in 2014, .176 last season. He didn't really deserve to be brought back on anything other than his value as a good clubhouse guy (and serving as Jon Lester's personal catcher). But he's responded with a good year at the plate with a 107 OPS+. Just another thing that's gone perfect for the Cubs this year.

Cubs fans recognized David Ross with a standing ovation when he came to bat in the second inning knowing it's his last reg season game at Wrigley Field though there's a good chance he catches Game 1 of the postseason here on Oct. 7.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

David Ortiz told reporters in Tampa that he couldn't stop thinking about Jose Fernandez throughout Red Sox's 10-inning victory. "It's a sad day, man. Such a young, humble great kid. All the good things going on in his life and all of a sudden this tragedy happening, it's inexplicable."

Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN

Really classy by Yadier Molina to stand between the mound and home plate and hold the game up while David Ross got a standing ovation.

Mark Saxon ESPN Staff Writer

The Cardinals notice Yadier Molina's impact every season, but MVP voters only take note when Molina puts up impressive offensive numbers. This is one of those seasons. The only times he finished in the top five in MVP voting were 2012 and 2013, when he had OPSes of .874 and .836. At 34, he is having his best season at the plate since then. Molina leads all major league catchers in hits (152) and doubles (35). He is batting .301 overall and .355 (with a .900 OPS) since the All-Star break.

Dave Roberts is just the second Dodgers rookie manager to guide the team into the postseason. Tommy Lasorda was at the helm when the Dodgers advanced in his first year as manager in 1977.

Dodgers playing a recording of Vin Scully singing "The Wind Beneath My Wings," as he completes his final broadcast at Dodger Stadium. Players start spraying champagne in the field once the song ends.

Jesse Rogers ESPN Staff Writer

The Cubs had a moment of silence for Jose Fernandez and have the number 16 on the manual scoreboard next to Miami to honor him.

Didn't See This Coming: Dodgers playing a recording of Vin Scully signing "Wind Beneath My Wings." Awesome.
