Hanley Ramirez is having surgery on his left shoulder, the Red Sox slugger announced Tuesday via Twitter. His shoulder bothered him all season, limiting him to primarily a DH role and contributing to a subpar .242/.320/.429 offensive performance with 23 homers and 62 RBI. "Coming back stronger in ‘18, love you all #RedSoxNation," Ramirez wrote. (Ctsy: @HanleyRamirez/Twitter)

Carlos Beltran and Brian McCann return to the Houston Astros' lineup for Game 4 against Yankees right-hander Sonny Gray after sitting out Monday night. The Astros are the highest-scoring team in baseball since the 2009 Yankees, but have scored only five runs through three games of the American League Championship Series.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi is starting Austin Romine behind the plate because ALCS Game 4 started Sonny Gray has worked better with Romine than Gary Sanchez. Sanchez will DH.

Expect a heavy left handed lineup for the Cubs in Game 3 tonight against Yu Darvish. Ben Zobrist will be at second base in place of Javier Baez who is 0 for 19 this postseason. Joe Maddon will also employ an all lefty outfield as well with Kyle Schwarber, Jon Jay and Jason Heyward your likely starters.

Dustin Pedroia will decide within the next few days on a course of treatment for his left knee, according to a source familiar with his thinking. The Red Sox second baseman has seen specialists in New York and Boston. Surgery remains a possibility. "If you were to get it fixed, the recovery is a long time," Pedroia said last week. "So, I have a lot of things to weigh with the doctors and figure it out."

The NCAA, NFL, NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball on Monday filed a 71-page brief opposing New Jersey's attempt to legalize sports betting. The U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case Dec. 4.

What was all that yelling from CC Sabathia to Josh Reddick after the sixth inning? "That was just me being me, man," Sabathia said, laughing.

Matt Marrone ESPN.com

CC Sabathia appeared to bark some not quite family-friendly phrases at Astros right fielder Josh Reddick after getting him to ground out to end the sixth inning. When asked about it after the game, the Yankees lefty said, laughing: "That was just me being me, man."

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

Yankees third baseman Todd Frazier invoked two animal comparisons in his description of what it's like to face CC Sabathia. "He's a bulldog," Frazier said. "It's one of those things. Look at the size of him. He looks like a bear out there just on the mound, just ready to pounce on somebody. He has that going for him. And he hits his spots."

When asked about the energy Garden State native Todd Frazier has brought to the Bronx, Yankees first baseman Greg Bird laughed. "Yeah, he's funny. He's unique, for sure. Super New Jersey, I guess," said Bird, who was born in Memphis. "He's great, on both sides of the ball. And, you know, he can put the ball in the seats and that's huge."

Matt Marrone ESPN.com

Yankees first baseman Greg Bird on the 6-foot-7, 282-pound Aaron Judge: "You don't see people his size move like that. At least not in our sport. Maybe the NBA or the NFL, but I never have, personally, up close like this, and it's really impressive to watch."

Matt Marrone ESPN.com

Brett Gardner expressed some sympathy for the right-field wall at Yankee Stadium after Aaron Judge crashed into it making a leaping grab in the fourth inning. "That pad's only a couple inches thick and right behind that, it's not moving -- even as big as he is," the left fielder said. "Even though it's padded, it's a pretty good hit he took. But like I said, he's a big guy, so the wall's probably hurting too."

Matt Marrone ESPN.com

After his team's loss in Game 3 of the ALCS, Astros manager A.J. Hinch gave the proverbial game ball to Yankees rookie Aaron Judge. "Judge did what Judge has done 50-plus times, which is hit the ball out of the ballpark when he gets a pitch to hit. Big moment won by Judge," Hinch said. "It was his night. He played defense tonight. He did a lot of things well for them. And really was a big difference in the game."

Lance McCullers is a dice roll for the Astros in Game 4. He made only six starts after All-Star break and posted an 8.23 ERA. But he also has one of the best curveballs in baseball and was 7-1 with a 2.53 ERA through his first 14 starts.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

Astros will start Lance McCullers in Game 4. Why? "He's really good," manager A.J. Hinch said. Dallas Keuchel still lined up for Game 5, Justin Verlander for Game 6.

Andrew Marchand ESPN Senior Writer

The Yankees beat the Astros, 8-1, to cut Houston's ALCS lead to two games to one. CC Sabathia fired six scoreless innings, while Todd Frazier and Aaron Judge both had three-run homers.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

Astros haven't named a Game 4 starter. Earlier, today, manager A.J. Hinch said he has "mapped out like 100 scenarios." Wonder if Dallas Keuchel is one of them? Keuchel has never pitched on three days' rest in his career, but starting him in Game 4 would also line him up for a possible Game 7.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

Astros have been held to two runs or fewer in three consecutive games only once all season -- and never by the same team. It happened on Sept. 10-13 against the A's and Angels. Through 22 innings in this ALCS, Astros have scored a grand total of four runs.

Andrew Marchand ESPN Senior Writer

Aaron Judge nailed a three-run homer and it is a blowout in the Bronx. Judge's ball just cleared the left field wall in the fourth inning. Paired with his top of the fourth catch when he slammed into the right field wall, Judge is answering Jose Altuve in the mano-a-mano MVP battle.
