Manny Machado crushed a solo home run to left-center field, cutting the Dodgers' deficit to 3 in the seventh inning. He's 3-for-4 tonight and is batting .282 with 5 home runs and 12 RBIs in 31 games since the trade. Been hitting the ball consistently hard for about a week now.

Khris Davis is at it again, with his 17th home run in 27 games and 38th of 2018 as he approaches 40 for the third season in a row. He's homered in three straight games for the second time this month. He's not really in the MVP discussion -- not in a league with Mookie Betts and Jose Ramirez and Francisco Lindor and J.D. Martinez -- but he's going to finish high in the balloting. Not bad for a guy the A's got Bubba Derby and Jacob Nottingham.

Kevin Gausman was my favorite acquisition at the trade deadline, even more than Manny Machado, with the idea that getting away from Baltimore could be a huge positive. After throwing eight scoreless against the Pirates, he's 3-1 in four starts with the Braves with a 2.00 ERA. He has just 17 K's in 27 innings with Atlanta, but he's getting groundballs and has allowed just one home run.

The Dodgers had runners on second and third with none out in the fourth and did not score a run. Over their last two games, they are 3-for-19 with runners in scoring position and have stranded 20 runners.

On a day that Yu Darvish went down for the season -- after signing that $126 million contract -- Brett Anderson has allowed one hit through 6.1 innings for the A's. Oakland's scrap-heap rotation of Anderson, Edwin Jackson, Trevor Cahill and Mike Fiers continues to amaze with solid results.

Aroldis Chapman says he felt some of the discomfort in his knee while he was warming up. He added that this time the pain was worse then he had felt before. That prompted him to call trainers.

Aaron Boone says Aroldis Chapman's left knee is bothering him again in a similar spot as where he's had tendinitis before. Chapman will have an MRI as they evaluate the knee further.

Just as expected, it's now Ross Detwiler, making his first MLB appearance since 2016, versus Astros rookie Framber Valdez, making his MLB debut. Both allowed a run in their first inning of work. This is going to be one of those Baker's Dozen games -- a lot of relievers.

Watch Anthony Rizzo discuss the Cubs offensive drought, which led to a 5th straight game scoring a single run.

The Astros are in Seattle for a crucial AL West game, and both teams are improvising with bullpen games. The Astros are going Brad Peacock, as he starts for the injured Lance McCullers Jr. -- the first time the Astros have needed a sixth starter all season. Mike Leake came down an illness, so Nick Vincent will make his first major league start after 335 relief appearances.

More bad news for the White Sox. Jose Abreu showed up earlier today complaining of a pain in his lower abdomen. He ended up having an out-patient procedure done and won't be able to resume baseball activities for two weeks.

The Dodgers placed JT Chargois on the disabled list today. He is the seventh Dodgers reliever to either go on the DL or come off the DL over the last 13 days. One (Erik Goeddel) did both in that stretch.

The Cubs extended a record string of scoring one run per game with each run coming via a solo homer to 5 games as they lost 2-1 to the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. Four straight games was already a record they had reached on Sunday in Pittsburgh. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, tonight marked the 9th time in franchise history the Cubs have scored 1 run or fewer in 5 straight games. They've now scored exactly 1 run in 5 straight games twice in franchise history, the last time coming in 1934. The Cubs are 2-3 in the five games, losing the last three.

The Dodgers put in a waiver claim on Bryce Harper, but nothing came of it and it might just have been strategic, to block him from going to other contenders. Dave Roberts, on if he needs more offense: "I don't think so. Every day I write the lineup, I feel great about our lineup."

It's stopped raining and the White Sox groundscrew is taking up the tarp. The club expects the game to resume in about 15 minutes, which would put the delay at around 37 to 40 minutes. Chicago will bat when we resume, so that will be a long time to sit for rookie Michael Kopech. We'll see how Chicago handles it. Joe McEwing is running the club again tonight in place of Rick Renteria, who is out of the hospital but is still in Minneapolis.

Two scoreless frames with four strikeouts for Michael Kopech, but he's burned through 52 pitches to do it. Kopech struck out the side in the second but got squeezed with two outs by homer plate umpire C.B. Bucknor on a 1-2 offering to Robbie Grossman. He ended up throwing another 13 pitches in the inning. Then the skies opened up and we're in a rain delay.

White Sox rookie Michael Kopech gave up hits to the first two batters he faced in the majors, but bounced back to wriggly out of a first-and-third, no-one-out jam. Kopech threw 19 fastballs and three sliders in the frame, but one of the breaking balls struck out Miguel Sano on a checked swing.
