Back spasms for Drew Pomeranz, according to the Red Sox.

Drew Pomeranz, who has been Red Sox's second-best starting pitcher, is leaving the game with an apparent lower body injury in the top of the fourth inning. Awaiting word on exact nature of the injury. Pomeranz threw two warmup pitches and was unable to continue.

Clearly shaken by Detroit's two-run first, the Dodgers bounce back with a four-run second off Jordan Zimmerman. Here's great news for the 29 teams chasing LA: Fresh off a long DL stay because of back trouble, Adrian Gonzalez doubled and scored in his Major League first plate appearance since June 11.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, Miguel Cabrera's first-inning double was No. 543 on his career, tying him with Tony Gwynn for 34th all-time. Next up: Derek Jeter had 544. There is probably a Marlins tie-in there somewhere.

The Tigers grab a quick 2-0 lead on Rich Hill and the Dodgers. Justin Upton's double off the wall scored the first run. On that day play, Joc Pederson leaped at the fence as if to rob a home run but the ball wasn't actually headed out of the yard. Oops. Nearly bonked Pederson on the head. Miguel Cabrera followed with an RBI double.

As the Marlins and Mets wait through a rain delay, let's take a look from the section where Aaron Judge homered Wednesday, 469 feet away.

Mother Nature has been kind so far to the Yankees and Red Sox. First pitch at Fenway Park on time tonight under continued threat of thunderstorms in the Boston area.

Love this from Marlins manager Don Mattingly on Giancarlo Stanton's HRs: "He's got 44 now. If he fell asleep the rest of the year he's going to hit 50."

No on-field batting practice at Citi Field ahead of tonight's Marlins/Mets game. There's a threat of rain -- and maybe the threat of a Giancarlo Stanton upper-deck blast.

When Theo Epstein first left, John Henry wondered aloud if he was fit to own the Red Sox. I think he's answered that question

Lucas Giolito had four quality starts, a 1.71 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 8.7 percent walk and 22.0 percent strikeout rate in his past four starts for Triple-A Charlotte. It's not the easiest remaining schedule for White Sox pitchers -- lots of Indians, Royals, Tigers and some Astros -- but this is still a front-of-rotation prospect worth adding in 12-plus-team mixed leagues.

John Farrell: Red Sox "haven't abandoned" idea that David Price (elbow) will return this season, but stiffness that lefty felt earlier in the week still exists. Not throwing again today, only treatment. "We're not going to push this," said Farrell, who didn't offer specifics on location or stiffness. No plans yet for Price to see doctor for additional testing.
