Matt Carpenter out of the game; Voit in his place. You wonder if Carpenter was hurt on that tag play at home.

Clayton Kershaw seemed down postgame. He expressed "a lot of frustration" to be hit with an injury like this after doing "countless hours" of rehab from his previous back issue, but also said a lot of the symptoms are dissimilar and didn't want to speculate as to the extent. He said he was feeling very good leading up to this. Kershaw will see Dr. Robert Watkins, the team's back specialist, tonight.

A win against the Cardinals tonight would vault the Cubs into first place by a percentage point over the Milwaukee Brewers. It would be the first time the Cubs were in first place since the end of the day on May 26. A win would also push them to a season high 5 games over .500.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Clayton Kershaw was taken out as a "precaution," but obviously there's concern there because of the herniated disk that robbed him of 2 1/2 months last year. Roberts believes this issue is more "muscular," and that he didn't have the shooting pain down his leg like he did last year. Kershaw will be going on the disabled list, and they'll have more information on his status on Monday. He's going to undergo further testing. Brandon McCarthy will also go on the DL with a blister issue.

ESPN Stats and Information

Clayton Kershaw didn't factor into the decision after his second-inning injury, but the Dodgers went on to win for the 15th straight time in a game he started. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, that's tied for the longest winning streak in a single pitcher's starts in franchise history.

Dodgers win, 5-4, on a 10th-inning walk-off hit by Logan Forsythe, and thus avoid their first loss when leading by three entering the ninth since Aug. 12, 2010.

No apples-to-apples recent Red Sox precedent for calling up Rafael Devers to play regularly in heat of pennant race. Andrew Benintendi was two years older and came from a college program when he got called up last year. Even in 2013, Xander Bogaerts wasn't called up to play every day. "I think not playing on a regular basis was a good thing for me," Bogaerts said. "I was able to watch the game, enjoy the game as a bench player. ... This guy maybe's got to play every day again."

It had to happen some day, and that day was today. Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen has blown his first save of the season, giving up three ninth-inning runs to the Braves to tie this game at 4. Entered with a 0.88 ERA in 41 innings.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

As much as anything, lack of appealing third-base trade candidates prompted decision to call up Rafael Devers. "Our people said, 'Well, why would you try that [trade]? Why don't you try him?'" Dave Dombrowski said. "He's in a position, we think he can do it. The request for some of the guys that would be minimally better for us have been very large, and so we think that he gives us as good a chance as anybody we've had a chance to acquire -- for third base."

Yankees are up 6-4 in the 7th inning at Safeco Field, looking for their first series win since a 3-game sweep from 6/9-11 vs. Baltimore.
