The Giants officially signed Pablo Sandoval, and are assigning him to their High-A Cal League affiliate in San Jose. Moving Eduardo Nunez by the trade deadline would certainly make room. If there's any life left in the Panda's bat, it's found money; if (more likely) not, no harm in trying.

While Red Sox are exploring outside-the-box options at 3B, they haven't considered Jose Bautista, who has played more than 3,000 innings at the position but only 11 since 2014. At age 36, it's unclear whether Bautista can still play third, but one AL talent evaluator said he definitely couldn't do it every day.

The Brewers' decision to demote MLB whiff leader Keon Broxton reflects how ugly his slump had gotten: 3-for-50 in his last 18 games with a .295 OPS. He was striking out 38% of the time without being an asset on defense (-7 DRS). Changing to Brett Phillips now and maybe Lewis Brinson later (1.204 OPS in the last 28 days in Triple-A) should provide a boost down the stretch.

Watch to see if the Rays try to add a right-handed bat at the deadline. The lineup OPS drops 83 points vs. southpaws, and they 5 games under .500 against them (worst among contenders) while being 10 over vs. righties. Will they be able to find help -- in their price range?

A big part of the reason why the Pirates are MLB's hottest team outside of the Astros & Dodgers? Pitching, because the Bucs lead the majors in ERA in July, with the pen really shining (MLB-best 1.57 ERA). Now that they're above .500 with Starling Marte back from his PED suspension and the lineup finally ready to fire on all cylinders, you can bury those Andrew McCutchen trade rumors.

No one has hit one out of Safeco during a game since 1999. Aaron Judge came within 3 rows of the top Friday night. es.pn/2umkkk3
